Eight years after its last EP on the late Component Records, Mike Cadoo (of Gridlock and Bitcrush fame) brings back to life his Dryft project, which potentially the closest possible thing to a Gridlock continuation. Free of the shoegazing guitars and vocals of Bitcrush, we're presented here with something which, though considerably lusher and less dry than past Dryft releases, quickly progresses towards the kind of syncopated electronic and subdued drum'n'bass which we had heard in the first Dryft releases and late-era Gridlock. Even the artwork reminds of the first, electronic years of N5md, and this might very well be the long-awaited release which will appease both fans of Gridlock and those of you who longed for a return to purely electronic music from this label. Recommended.
