First album by this (presumably German) producer, pushed by Dirk Geiger's Raumklang label, "Shades" is something which delivers all what could expect from such an artist name (meaning "grey room" in German) and a bleak cover artwork: highly introspect but evocative electronica soundscapes and glitches juggle their ways through meditative tracks, at times answering much heavier, quasi industrial beats. The whole thing is musically subtle, though it lays the pathos in a pretty heavy handed way, and evolves little by little towards thicker, slightly noisier tracks. An interesting debut and a competent home-listening, late evening album.
