Past his crunchy 8-bits and easy, metronomic rhythms, Joker's main quality is his ability to write long and catchy melodic lines. He does it masterfully on this new Tectonic 12", whose title track is an insidious dubstep take at some kind of old Vangelis or Goblin tune, as if written in 2009 on a vocoded gameboy. Very efficient, quite clever and putting its focus on a too often overshadowed aspect of this music. The B side, with a darker bassline and heavier beat, provide some respite from the playfulness of the main track, and rounds up nicely one of my favorite Joker releases so far.
