With this third album of his Last Step project, Aaron Funk is really establishing this moniker has something serious, and not just the sort-of one-off experiments one could suppose the previous two albums were. "Sleep", quite ill named, is clearly the straightest of these three albums, and sounds a lot less Snares-y than, let's say "1961". On the other hand, it is from start to finish an acid LP, with just some IDM thrown into the mix for good measures. Very retro, relatively down-tempo (and again, totally devoid of Venetian Snares's aggressivity), here's something which would have fit well on Rephlex. All in all a good, pleasant production which somewhat surprises by not being as surprising as Aaron Funk's output usually is (if this makes sense).
