If the current trend in hard drum'n'bass seems to be mixing d'n'b rhythms with hardcore (something spearheaded with talent by The Outside Agency), Machinecode are going their own way, with Current Value and Dean Rodell slowing things down, adding a lot of bass to the mix and coming up with something which is not quite dubstep, but also not really drum'n'bass anymore. Following their brillant "Environment" album, here comes a new split with Nanotek which underlines their aim. While the latter's side might be a bit faster, the whole EP is dark, brooding and creeps relatively slowly (by these people's standards). Uncommon, as usual very well produced, and recommended.
