Following closely their "Metro North" debut, Run Return offer here a CD presenting old tracks, recorded between 1999 and 2001, in which their taste for Boards of Canada-like sonorities and ambiences (already discernable on the "Animals are beautiful people" 7") get the lion's share again. Adequately mixing gentle, syncopated electronic beats with a strong use of accoustic instruments (and in this strangely alike to the much later recorded "In Distance" album by N5md's manager Bitcrush), "Sum of an abstract" is a perfect sunny electronica album, discreet, modest and very pleasant.
