I don't know much about The Empath, a German act who has apparently released quite a few albums in the last few years. What's pretty obvious from listening to "Meanwhile", though, is that this guy used to listen to Beefcake a lot. The same clear sounds, the same early Warp melodies, the same use of melancholic samples are to be heard here, and though The Empath uses considerably less drum'n'bass beats than Beefcake used to, the nostalgic feeling, the industrial arrangements and the audience are probably similar. A pleasant album, melodic and somewhat old school, but which should have no difficulty in hitting its target.
