That's what I called a mutation. TKDE's third album sees this band shed their darkest sound in favor of a considerably more stripped down and lighter sound. The "for fans of Portishead" sticker is true for the first two, vocal-based jazz tunes, but will apply less to the semi free-wheeling dronier tracks of the album's core, sounding a lot closer to some bare early era Morricone soundtracks, before electronics and trombone kick in again towards to the end. The electronica side of TKDE's debut are long gone, as is most of "Here Be Dragons" menacing weight, for "From The Stairwell" sounds a lot more psychedelic, aerial and old school. An interesting progression from an important act.
